Skyler's 5th Birthday

We celebrated Skyler's 5th birthday, and he got to have his first birthday party. He talked of nothing but his birthday for at least a month. Skyler wanted a Batman party, so we made masks and capes for all the kids. The invitations told the guests that a villain had stolen Skyler's birthday cake and we needed their help to find it. Skyler invited 5 friends and 2 cousins, and it was the perfect number for a fun birthday party.

Batgirl!I painted some decorations for the party, and we hung bats from the ceiling.

When the kids arrived, we decorated batplanes with gel pens (which are really cool) and flew them around the house.

We played "Pin the Emblem on Batman," and Skyler actually came pretty close.

Then we popped balloons which were the "bad guys." Unfortunately, the balloons were too high quality and wouldn't pop. Steve even jumped on one and it didn't pop. We then headed outside to throw water balloons at the Riddler. The kids could have done this all day if we'd have had more balloons. They loved it!

Skyler loved opening all his presents, and he remembered to thank everyone for his gifts. Great job Skyler!
After opening presents, the kids had to follow some clues to find Skyler's birthday cake. The clues were like "Hickory dickory dock. We’re racing round the clock. The clock struck four. Try the back door. Hickory dickory dock." This was everyone's favorite part of the party, and the kids were running around the house excited and on a mission to find that cake. They finally found it in a cupboard.
Skyler's cake had some problems. The cake halves wouldn't come out of the pan, so the bottom layer was pieced together and then frozen. It was a little lopsided and sloppy-looking, but really yummy.
Before all the kids left, I took photos of them each in front of the Batman decorations, and they each got a grab bag of superhero goodies.

We held Skyler's birthday party on Friday, but his birthday wasn't until Sunday, so he kind of had two birthdays.
