Blizzard
It took Steve 5 hours to get home from work on Wednesday night. He called me at 3:30 from Lehi saying he was on his way home, but that the weather was awful and traffic was at a standstill. It is normally about a 45-55 minute drive, so I assumed he'd be home by 5 or 5:30. Well, he called me numerous times with news that he hadn't moved for a half an hour, that cars were stuck in the snow, and the wind was blowing so hard that he couldn't see past the car ahead of him. I checked Commuter-Link, and it didn't show any traffic accidents or road closures though. Finally, Steve decided to back track and go south to get to another freeway entrance. This didn't help him at all, and if anything, made his commute longer. The freeway was at a standstill, and cars were getting stuck in the drifting foot-deep snow. At about 6:45, Steve made it to the onramp that he was originally trying to get to. He finally got home at 8:30 that night saying it was the worst storm he'd ever been in. I've heard Steve say this many times. In fact, one week earlier his drive home from Rock Springs was "the worst storm" he'd ever seen. I believe him, but I also find myself rolling my eyes a little. Well, that night we watched the news, and it was reported that the road Steve was originally on had since been closed and that about 50 people were stranded and had to abandon their cars. School buses couldn't get through and some children had to sleep at the school. The news reported that it was a blizzard and the worst to hit the valley in years. Now, I 'm getting a great deal of "I told you so."
